Sing to the Lord

Date: Mar. 19, 2022

Passage

Psalm 96:1-13 (ESV)

  Oh sing to the LORD a new song;
    sing to the LORD, all the earth!
  Sing to the LORD, bless his name;
    tell of his salvation from day to day.
  Declare his glory among the nations,
    his marvelous works among all the peoples!
  For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised;
    he is to be feared above all gods.
  For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols,
    but the LORD made the heavens.
  Splendor and majesty are before him;
    strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.
  Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples,
    ascribe to the LORD glory and strength!
  Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name;
    bring an offering, and come into his courts!
  Worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness;
    tremble before him, all the earth!
10   Say among the nations, “The LORD reigns!
    Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved;
    he will judge the peoples with equity.”
11   Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice;
    let the sea roar, and all that fills it;
12     let the field exult, and everything in it!
  Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy
13     before the LORD, for he comes,
    for he comes to judge the earth.
  He will judge the world in righteousness,
    and the peoples in his faithfulness.

Key Verse: 96:2

  Sing to the LORD, bless his name;
    tell of his salvation from day to day.

The LORD calls all the earth to sing to him. We praise him like this because of his great salvation. The LORD calls us to proclaim and declare his glory among the nations. Our God is the creator and the ruler of all things. His greatness has no equal. He is worthy of all praise. We are called to ascribe to him all the glory that is due him, to offer our time, our money and most of all our lives to him. We are called to testify his awesome splendor to all nations and bring them also to the worship of God.

Verses 10-13 tell us that the LORD is the one who comes to judge the earth. He will judge all people. He judges with equity. We are called to rejoice with eager expectation of his coming. When Jesus came, he bore the sins of humanity on himself and died. But he was raised from the dead and will come again. The LORD’s judgment is testified in Christ. When he comes, we know he will judge the world in righteousness. His faithfulness brings us to rejoice.

Prayer: Prayer: Lord, bless me to proclaim your salvation to all nations and live as a source of joy today.

One Word: One Word: Let all creation rejoice
