Jesus Curses a Fig Tree and Clears the Temple Courts

Date: May. 19, 2022

Passage

Mark 11:12-19 (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 11:17

And he was teaching them and saying to them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But you have made it a den of robbers.”

The next day Jesus went near a fig tree to see if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves. Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” This fig tree represents us, the people of God. Jesus wants each one of us to bear fruit in our lives. When we truly live a life that follows Jesus, we bear fruit. Not bearing any fruit in our lives demonstrates our lack of relationship with Jesus. Lord, we repent of our sins and not bearing fruit in our lives. We come to you in repentance. Change our lives to bear fruit.

On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple courts and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. Jesus would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. He said, “Is it not written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations? But you have made it ‘a den of robber.’” 1 Corinthians 3:16 says that we are God’s temple. Our hearts are supposed to be a temple of God that should be called a house of prayer. Lord, we repent that our hearts are cluttered with so many things of this world. May Jesus come in and cleanse it. May Jesus come and dwell in our heart as the King!

Prayer: Prayer: Father, please come and cleanse our heart today.

One Word: One Word: Jesus wants us to make a fruit in our life.
