The Lord Hears My Prayer

Date: Feb. 9, 2026

Passage

Psalm 4:1-8 (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 4:1

In verse 1, David cries for God’s help and mercy in his distress. He is passionate as he prays. He relies on God’s righteousness, not his own. When we are in distress, we also can turn to God by crying out in prayer, relying on His mercy and trusting in Him alone. This is the prayer that God hears.

In verses 2-3, David admonishes those who spread lies about him and twisted God’s glory into something shameful. David united the kingdom of Israel, restored the ark, and worshiped God joyfully. But those who hated David and worshiped false idols slandered David. Even his own wife Michal dishonored him. But David affirmed that God honored him as his servant and God hears him.

When David laid down to sleep, he did not wish his enemies harm, nor did he let them rob him of peace. He trusted in God’s righteousness and believed that God would care for him. May we have this assurance and peace in our hearts when we are slandered.

Prayer: Father, thank you for hearing my prayers and having mercy on me. Please help me to trust in your righteousness and have peace.

One Word: The Lord hears my prayer for mercy
