Truth in the Word of the Lord

Date: Feb. 17, 2026

Passage

Psalm 12:1-8 (ESV)

To the choirmaster: according to The Sheminith. A Psalm of David.

  Save, O LORD, for the godly one is gone;
    for the faithful have vanished from among the children of man.
  Everyone utters lies to his neighbor;
    with flattering lips and a double heart they speak.
  May the LORD cut off all flattering lips,
    the tongue that makes great boasts,
  those who say, “With our tongue we will prevail,
    our lips are with us; who is master over us?”
  “Because the poor are plundered, because the needy groan,
    I will now arise,” says the LORD;
    “I will place him in the safety for which he longs.”
  The words of the LORD are pure words,
    like silver refined in a furnace on the ground,
    purified seven times.
  You, O LORD, will keep them;
    you will guard us from this generation forever.
  On every side the wicked prowl,
    as vileness is exalted among the children of man.

Key Verse: 12:6

  The words of the LORD are pure words,
    like silver refined in a furnace on the ground,
    purified seven times.

Throughout history, people have been manipulated by the smooth talkers of the world. They vie for our attention to sell us joy and happiness, only to leave us feeling empty and cheated, never good enough.

Truth and wisdom do not come with sex appeal and get-rich quick schemes. God’s truth withstands the test of time and goes through the flames and comes out pure and refined like silver and gold in the crucible. God’s truth resurrects from the ashes and from the cross and tomb. God’s truth gives us healing from sin and freedom from the lies of the world. God’s word plants our souls securely in the love of God and makes us truly whole.

Prayer: Lord, help me to seek you and your truth and not be caught in persuasive deceptions.

One Word: Seek God’s word
